Encrypting all SUL Staff machines

Computer area in the East Asia Library

As part of the University’s efforts to increase computing security, Stanford has mandated that all faculty, staff, and postdoc Windows and Apple computers be encrypted. This encryption protects access to University and personal data in the case that computers are lost or stolen.

The SUL Technical Support team has been working with the University’s Information Security Office, technical consultants from central IT and SUL Expert Partners to ensure that our laptop and workstation images are revised to meet this mandate. Over the next several weeks your Expert Partners will be working with you to ensure your work machine is encrypted. For most SUL staff this will be a quick setup process. In other cases, we are tying the encryption work into the annual machine swap process.

We appreciate your patience as we work to increase data security across SUL and the University as a whole. For general questions about the SUL encryption efforts, please contact SUL Tech Support at sultechsupport@lists.stanford.edu.
