After 20 years of exemplary service, Veena Bhargava is retiring from Stanford University Libraries at the end of the month to enjoy a well deserved “life of leisure” in Florida. She and her husband will be relocating to Gainesville to be close to her daughter, son-in law and two adorable grandchildren, and to share her expertise in and love for Indian cooking with some very lucky folks in the Gainesville community – pursuing a request that has been voiced by many of her daughter’s friends and colleagues.
Veena joined the Serials Receiving and Maintenance Unit in the Acquisitions Department as a Library Specialist in September of 1994 after a 10 year career as a cataloger at the University of Rochester, NY. She initially was hired for one year to help out with a huge Serials vendor re-direct project, but ended up staying for many, many more… While working in Serials, she checked-in / processed huge amounts of journals, including non-paper format materials and UN and International Government Documents; claimed countless missing issues, performed maintenance on thousands of serial records; and solved a multitude of serials related problems – always with great competence, patience and a smile on her face.
We want to thank Veena for her many years of excellent and faithful service and we wish her the very best of everything and a wonderful new chapter of life as she enters the world of retirement. We will miss her very much!
