Stanford University has been recognized as a research entity by the European Commission, and faculty, staff, and PhD students may now request access to Eurostat microdata. Microdata, which consists of sets of records containing information on individual respondents or business entities, is considered sensitive, and is made accessible only to eligible researchers who agree to maintain the security of the material. Now that Stanford is recognized as an eligible research entity, faculty, staff, and PhD students (only) can submit a research proposal and apply for access.

You can learn more about accessing the Eurostat microdata and the broad subject areas covered by the data on the Eurostat web page. It is a good idea to familiarize yourselves with the application process, and as you are reading, make note that the "research entity" process (Applying for access, Step 1) has been done; you need only to apply for access to the microdata (Step 2), however, this process can take several weeks.
