The University's Information Security Office has announced that beginning on February 25th, use of the Stanford Virtual Private Network (VPN) will require two-step authentication. Stanford's VPN service is frequently used by hackers to gain unauthorized access to Stanford resources via compromised SUNet accounts. The addition of two-step authentication will prevent this abuse, just as it strongly protects access to our web-based services.

For more information and instructions on the changes to the VPN service, see ITS's Two-Step Authentication for VPN webpage. Once the additional security is in place, should you experience problems using VPN, please submit a HelpSU ticket.

An overview of Stanford's two-step authentication is available online.  Additionally, IT Services will provide in-person training on two-step authentication on Thursday Feb. 19th, from 10-11 in the SSRC room in Green Library.
