Casey Mullin, Head of the Data Control Unit of the Metadata Department, will be leaving SUL to take on a position as music cataloger at the New York Public Library. His last day with us will be April 10.

Casey joined SUL as an original cataloger in the Metadata Development Unit in 2009, by way of Indiana University, where he earned his MLS degree. When Margaret Lu, longtime Head of Data Control, retired in 2012, Casey was recruited to fill that position, which he has served with distinction till now. Even though his tenure at SUL has been relatively short, Casey has made a big impact in a number of different areas. He was a key metadata consultant in the early days of SearchWorks’ development, and many of today’s SearchWorks features, such as the date slider and the resource and media type facets, have his fingerprints on them. As Head of Data Control, he had participated in big projects such as the barcoding and data cleanup of the SAL collection, the emptying out of Green South Stacks in preparation for the demolition of Meyer Library, and the merging of the Math & Statistics collection into the Biology Library’s space. 

While we are certainly sad to lose such a valuable and well-regarded member of the Metadata Department, we are happy for Casey that he is now able to pursue his passion, which has always been music, and to have the opportunity to work with such a distinguished music collection as that of the NYPL. Please join us in wishing Casey much success in his new job, and fun and excitement in life in New York City.

There will be a farewell gathering on April 9, 3:00 pm, at the Lathrop Library 3^rd floor courtyard. I hope many of you could come to bid our friend and colleague goodbye.
