The university encourages all members of the Stanford community to verify and update their contact information, particularly in the mobile phone field, at least 24 hours before the Oct. 8 test.

Between noon and 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, Stanford will test the campus AlertSU system. Faculty, staff and students will receive alerts via email, mobile phone and text message indicating that the system is being tested.

Stanford also will activate its outdoor warning system, which includes seven sirens that will be audible throughout the campus and may also be heard in parts of Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Los Altos. The sirens will sound for about one minute, followed by a verbal message.

Faculty and staff should update their contact information in StanfordYou and students should update their information in Axess.

By programming the following numbers into their mobile phones, faculty, staff and students will recognize official calls and texts from the AlertSU system:

In a real emergency, faculty, staff and students would be asked to follow the specific instructions in the alert message. Updated information would be available on university websites, on Stanford's FM radio station and on hotlines:
