Northern Ireland's First Minister welcomes the expansion of HighWire and its contribution to the local economy

August 31, 2016 - Redwood City, CA - The First Minister of Northern Ireland, Arlene Foster, visited the recently opened HighWire office in Belfast, to welcome the Silicon Valley-based company and show her support for HighWire's investment in the local economy.

Speaking as she met Dan Filby CEO at HighWire Press, Inc., and the team, she said: "Companies such as HighWire are at the very heart of Northern Ireland's growing economy."

"The HighWire Training Academy in partnership with the Department for the Economy has been an important initiative to provide the distinct skills and experience required to staff the new job opportunities at HighWire.  It is a powerful demonstration of how the further education and private sector can work together for the benefit of the economy."

The First Minister added: "HighWire's decision to locate in Northern Ireland further boosts Belfast's reputation as the number one location in Europe for new software development projects."

"I have no doubt that HighWire's expansion here will encourage other global and innovative organisations to recognise that Northern Ireland is a great place to invest, live and do business."

HighWire is the leading digital publishing platform for the scholarly community. One of the key technologies HighWire uses is Drupal - a content management framework.  Through its expansion to Northern Ireland, HighWire has been able to tap into the outstanding pool of talent - over 16,000 IT professionals in Belfast, and will be aiming to promote Belfast as a Drupal centre of excellence.

"I'm delighted to welcome the First Minister to our Belfast office to meet with our new team," said Dan Filby, CEO.  "We've recruited 50 employees so far, in the areas of account management, software engineering, quality assurance, professional services, and technical customer support, with a further 24 roles to be filled by 2018."

"The expansion of HighWire's operations to Northern Ireland demonstrates our commitment to serving our international customers - adding more staff, more service hours to the working day, and putting all of this teamwork closer to our UK and European partners."

Dan Filby continued: "HighWire has been received with a lot of excitement and collaboration by the Northern Ireland business community.  Our new office in Belfast marks a significant leap forward in HighWire's growth plans".
